Ah....yes. One of my favorite topics. No matter what you are trying to
do with your body, proper nutrition will get you where you want to go.
But how does the average consumer make sense of all the non-sense out
there? A new best-seller on the latest fad diet hits the best sellers
list every other week as Americans continue to look for the short cuts,
starve and deprive themselves of everything they want and inevitably drive
themselves nuts and gain most of their weight back in the end.
What the so-called experts are telling you is to stay away from carbs
(The Zone), eat tons of protein (The Zone), have absolutely no sugar in
your diet (Sugar Busters), eat foods in certain combinations to lose weight
(Atkins). What they don't tell you is that the reason all of these work
in the short term is because they are all low caloric diets. Put someone
on a low caloric diet and like magic...poof.... the weight comes off.
But what are you losing? Your sanity for one followed by water loss and
muscle loss which is the last thing you want to lose.
Registered Dietitian, Amy Carlson has joined MerlinoFitness.com to help
cut through the food fallacies out there and give you straight answers
so you can make sense of it all. We will pull in the latest research to
prove our points when needed and explain how controlling your eating habits
cannot be done in a vacuum without keeping your body moving with cardiovascular
fitness and gaining muscle with resistance or weight training. It takes
work but it is a proven formula that works and will keep your weight off
for years instead of days or months.
We will also review some of the hottest supplements; what is worth spending
your money on to fill those gaps in your diet and what may not be the
safest alternatives. Research shows that we all can benefit from supplementing
our diets with vitamins and minerals that may be lacking.
So take a spin through the nutrition links. We know this is a hot topic
with everyone so we will be loading this section up with as much content
as we can get our hands on.
